MNCOMMUNITY DULUTH

For our first contest of 2018, we want to offer a new kind of photographic challenge. With MNCommunity Duluth as our partner, we are proud to announce a contest focusing on the person behind the camera.

That's right, this is a self-portrait contest! We want to get to know the people behind the camera - the Minnesotans making the art happen. In conjunction with our first issue of 2018, the Vision Issue, this contest echoes what we hope to achieve in its pages. In our storytelling efforts, transparency, openness, and not shying away from vulnerability are key components in building a meaningful, honest collection of stories. This self-portrait contest is an extension of our efforts, a way to connect with the Minnesota Instagram community and celebrate the individuals behind the camera.

We are so very grateful and honored to partner with @MNCommunityDuluth, a community page dedicated to supporting and promoting local artists, events, and organizations in the Twin Ports. Photographer Whitney Carlson runs this page, and we're excited to be working with her for this contest!

As the new chapter of MNCommunity, one of MNCommunity Duluth's main goals is to bring community members together through Instameets. Whitney shares, "An Instameet is a group of Instagrammers, Photographers, and Community Members meeting up to take photos and videos together - that's it! Instameets are great opportunities to explore someplace new and to meet new people that share common interests. We love hosting Instameets with local organizations and businesses."

Another goal of Whitney's is to support and showcase local artists through the MNCommunity Duluth Facebook and Instagram accounts. "We love sharing the beauty of the Northland through our Northlanders' unique perspectives." Whitney adds, "Keep an eye on our Facebook page (MNCommunity Duluth) and Instagram (@mncommunityduluth) for the latest Instameet and contest announcements as well as featured work by our local artists."
